The town is situated equidistant from Wales' two major cities, Cardiff and Swansea, making it a central hub for commerce and transport. The County Borough also boasts a stunning coastline on its southern boundary, offering breath-taking views of the Bristol Channel and the North Devon Coastline.

The Town of Bridgend, nestled in the heart of Bridgend County Borough, Wales, is steeped in a rich tapestry of history. One lesser-known facet of its past is its connection to the Second World War. It was here that the British government established a munitions factory, known as ROF Bridgend. This enormous facility occupied 40 square miles and employed over 40,000 people, making it one of the largest wartime munition production centres in the UK. Even more intriguing is the fact that the factory was so secret, it was not marked on maps and its workers were sworn to silence about its existence. Today, the site is home to the Bridgend Designer Outlet and the Parc Slip Nature Reserve, but its historic role remains a fascinating part of the town's wartime heritage.
On a lighter note, Bridgend is home to an intriguing cultural phenomenon known as the 'Bridgend Elfstedentocht'. This event, inspired by a similar tradition in the Netherlands, is a cycling tour that stops at eleven cities, mirroring the Dutch speed skating competition that shares its name. However, in Bridgend, the eleven 'cities' are actually local pubs! The event is a celebration of camaraderie and local culture, and serves as a unique way for the community to come together. Participants must cycle to all eleven pubs in a single day, making it a test of endurance as well as a chance to enjoy the local hospitality. This quirky tradition encapsulates the town's community spirit and its love for a good party.
